After his funeral
After his funeral I wanted to take something of his to remember him by. I took two of his coats that fit and while wearing one I found a used up tissue in one of the pockets. I couldn’t bring myself to throw it away for a long time. He had used it. It had his DNA. I felt like a was carrying around a small part of him. After the worst of the storm was over I decided to throw it away. I don’t keep things, even objects are impermanent. I’ve never been too much of a sentimental person, never too attached to things or ideas, or people… But now, sometimes, I wish I still had that tissue. I put my hand into the coat pocket to check it’s not there. I know it’s not, but I’m disappointed.
