Grief & Mourning

Grief and I are friends now

Grief and I are friends now. I have my own toothbrush in this cold palace. I have my own set of keys. Once you’re invited in, there’s no avoiding it. I see all the corners and rooms where other people will eventually get set up. I know now most don’t want to know. It is easier not to mention it to them. Some were curious, some were already here. Some who are here hardly visit. Others have made it their primary home. I think it will be my holiday home for now. In the little, quiet moments, I like to peek my head in. I walk around with my coffee and measure the space. I’m thinking of hanging up some art. Part of me feels proud for acknowledging the space. I’ll make it nice because, one day, someone will visit. Someday, I will hand over the key.
