I forgot to brush the dawn out of my teeth
I forgot to brush the dawn out of my teeth this morning, I’ve been thinking of words that hold moments in their grasp, Agitated footsteps startling pigeons On empty train stations, Waiting for a promise, A distant rumble of movement, A stirring of a feeling And you hold it down, you’re silent, you’re mute Because if you acknowledge the broken landscape Then the mountains will collapse and you’ll have nowhere to climb. So you fill the drum with bees Until everything is vibrating with danger And the possibility of an end.
